A mysterious man from the north, Aaron Drafthold carries a secret that is incomprehensible to most mortal minds. He knows all that was and seems to understand much of what will be, though his foresight is never quite as perfect as his knowledge of time’s beginning. He can warp the very fabric of Minera’s Breath to his will, transposing spells greater and more complex than those of any other living spellcaster.
Those who meet Aaron report the same unusual feeling: peacefulness, followed by unease. His stoicism can become charisma whenever he requires it, but the man behind the composed manner remains impossible to read. As the Wandering Mage of the Bastion, he does not seek to torture or slay adventurers. He seeks the heroic people of Tharador, testing them so they may take their places when the realm needs them most.
In 3E304, Aaron has not yet touched the direct events that will shape Tharador, but his hand will later help restore the buried city of Hinatal. He will bargain with the creature Melwyn to secure safe passage through the Reach for those who would uncover it. The trials of the Bastion may make its visitors hate him, yet Aaron knows the pain is necessary—and that the people who survive his gauntlet may be the ones who preserve the realm from darkness.
